So this week I’m on a health kick… next week may be different but let me tell you why.
I’ll be 40 this year, yes 40!! Am I worried about the number? No. I’m actually excited to be turning 40! And my husband is 42. He said to me recently, “our lives could be half over already.” That hit me pretty hard! And not because I was scared that my life could be half over, it was because I hope the last half will be a great as the first half. But i’ve had 3 surgeries in the last 2 years. My cholesterol is high, i’m over weight, i’m tired all the time, the list goes on!
And my husband was just tested for Rheumatoid Arthritis and he had a heart attack 2 years ago so they drew more heart labs. On top of that our 20 year old son was diagnosed with RA 5 years ago and at the time we were told it’s genetic but we didn’t know anyone in our families who had RA, so we we’re not sure where that showed up, which brings us back to why my husband got tested. Fast forward to getting results back in the magical My Chart. If you are anything like me you get your results back in there first and start googling and self diagnosing right? Well according to the chart my husband tested positive for RA. The Dr called the next morning and told him everything looks fine but we are gonna put you on 3 new meds anyways.. wait a second.. why???
His heart labs all came back high. High triglycerides, high cholesterol, all the bad things are high. Well, heart disease runs in his family, maybe that’s why, or maybe its because we don’t eat the best or maybe… blah blah blah. We could keep guessing or we could try to figure out how to stop this now so we can live longer than just 40 more years!
So I dove in. Into looking into supplements for arthritis, diet to help reduce his symptoms instead of meds, exercises that just get us moving for 30 min a day! All of this diving led me to a friend and a book call “Good Energy” by Casey Means, M.D. I’ll link it below for you.
All this being said, we are trying to get to the bottom of some health stuff and I’m trying to stay positive and get both of us to eat a little better, exercise more and just feel better in general. We don’t have to live our lives feeling tired all the time or waking up in the morning with a headache and reaching for the Tylenol everyday or Ibuprofen. We weren’t meant to live our lives feeling this way, sometimes things happen sure, we get sick or need a surgery or whatever and thank goodness for the Medical Professionals when it comes to that but my question for you is, why do we normalize waking up tired or with a headache? You’re body is telling you something is off and we are just brushing it under the rug and going about our day! Well… in some cases, there could be an easy fix! What is it you ask? Our food! And 30 min of exercise everyday! Any exercise, go for a walk, swim, go running, do some yoga, go bowling or dancing!! Just move your body!!! Read the book… you might thank me later!!
